atlas
a private, personal agent to hold up your digital world
This project began as a question. Could I use my existing Claude subscription to power a small team of personal agents, without juggling a pile of external API keys?
I stumbled across Claude Code's Channels feature, and 20 minutes later I was texting the agent on Telegram. I asked it to learn my writing style, draft my email replies, search my personal knowledge base (see the mind expanding project here), and dig up a recipe I had sent a friend months earlier. I added it to various group chats to help synthesize our conversations, suggest follow-ups, and help share information and links.
I named the project atlas, since it helps hold up my digital world. It sits on an old, non-GPU MacBook and runs around the clock, orchestrating Claude Code to fire off tasks, run cron jobs, fetch updates, and draft messages. I can text or send a voice note to it from anywhere. It can self-update, re-launch itself, and design custom, reusable scripts on the fly to run in Python, Go, R, etc., locally. It also created (unprompted) a Linear account for itself to be more organized! This example of emergent proactivity is astounding.
You could put Claude Code on a cloud server, wire up remote dispatch, and reach a similar destination. The Claude mobile app, plus Anthropic's Dispatch feature, already cover a lot of this ground. While atlas still uses Claude in the background, it also:
Produces and runs artifacts on hardware you already own. An old laptop, your own filesystem. Your scripts never leave the house, and there is no cloud instance to rent, secure, or worry about.
Is shaped around your personal life, not a software team. Most agent frameworks are shaped around engineering work. Atlas is always-on, easy to text via Telegram or similar, and easily expandable to the systems you use every day.
Can be forked and extended in minutes. The whole point of this writeup is to hand you (and your Claude Code) a recipe to start from.
Can connect to systems beyond current Claude connectors capability (e.g. YouTube, Spotify, custom APIs/MCPs, etc.)
Runs on your existing Claude subscription, so there are no metered API keys to renew or budget for. A nice convenience.
This repo has everything you need: the setup, the scripts, the structure. Point your own Claude Code at it and you can be texting your personal atlas in no time.
